Dear Mr. Stevenson,

We are so grateful for your generous donation to this year’s inner city literacy program conducted by our city. As you know, we were seeking donations to help increase the funding that schools in the inner city receive. There was a need for this type of funding since these schools require much more resources than others, especially in the area of literacy.

From surveys conducted last year, not only did the schools in the inner-city area score the lowest in Language Arts, but they also had the negative reputation of having more than fifty percent of its student body fail this subject. For this reason, we decided to create the “Literacy for Tomorrow” program led by Mrs. Prato, who has had years of experience in literacy programs throughout her career. Basically, Mrs. Prato has brought us back to the basics and reiterated that if we do not allocate more time to literacy, then we would not be able to foster growth in these children.

As a result, with the help of Mr. Collins from the local public library, Mrs. Prato will be using the donations received to commence an after-school reading and writing program for all those living within the inner city limits. The program will offer students a chance to read, share their ideas about the reading with the group, and write. The program will be for only an hour and all the materials will be provided for the students. Of course, with such a program registration will be limited as the library facilities can only accommodate 30 students per session. Therefore, we will run five sessions for an hour a day, and we will offer two time slots per day.

Once again Mr. Stevenson, thank you much for your donation, Mrs. Prato will be contacting you directly to inform you on how the program is running. Lastly, Mrs. Prato and Mr. Collins at the library are always welcoming anyone wishing to volunteer in the program, so if you wish to offer some of your time to help in this wonderful program for children, it would be more than welcomed.
